Different Uses of Could



  • Could is the past tense of can.   
                When I was young, I could lift heavy objects.


  • To make polite request and to answer this request(Can is more certain than could).
               Could you please help me.(I could , if I finish this earlier.)

  • To express possibility
               It could rain today.
