Split Infinitives
Split infinitives are formed when an adverb is placed between to and a verb. Some people thought that they were grammatically incorrect that's why they would rewrite the sentence. As they rewrite the sentence, they change the emphasis and thought of the sentence. The question now would be to avoid split infinitives or not. Some says that one should avoid them in formal writing, but it depends.

Split infinitives is quite a hard topic to talk about. Nevertheless, we should just take care of placing the adverb and its object modified.
ReplyDeleteIt says in the link that, it is safest to avoid split infinitives. Thank you for sharing this information.
ReplyDeleteIn your second sentence, we do not use "that's" in formal writing, instead we use "that is".
ReplyDeleteIt is very confusing where to put the adverbs in the sentence.

ReplyDeleteI believe split infinitives could add emphasis and flavor to an idea; however, it was said on the link that it is safer to avoid such.

ReplyDeleteI like these kinds of posts. They show us how the English language is always changing. Thank you for posting. I was entertained. :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I think your second sentence is a run-on sentence. You could have put "and" between "incorrect" and "that's" or you could have just separated the two sentences with a period.
Split infinitives are difficult to use. Yes, it is safe to avoid errors if you will just avoid using it but we also have to try to improve.
ReplyDeleteYes we can improve in learning from our corrected errors but if the error you committed will be graded then you will have a problem.
ReplyDeleteWe can try no to avoid such split infinitives if we are only familiar on using it. It is better to understand this kind of infinitives because we will gain new learning.
ReplyDeleteCome on, people just tend to be perfectionist. There is no problem whether it is split or not. What is important is that we understand what the speaker is saying.
